Technical Support Homepage

Welcome to the domain name technical support frequently asked questions and answers. Below is a list of the most common questions related to domain names, simply click on the question to reveal the answer. Also check our non-technical domains faq.
We can change any address details for your top level domain.
    • Update the domain type details in the Contact section of your members area.
    • Email domainadmin@f2s.net with the update request.
We cannot change the registrant name for a Nominet .uk domain. Only Nominet can do this and there is an associated fee. See
    http://www.nominet.org.uk/registrants/maintain/transfer/

These can be changed from the Domain Name section of your Members Area.
See also the FAQ section for Domain Names.
    http://www.freedom2surf.net/domains/domainsfaq.php

You can change these from the Edit DNS Entries area in your Members Area.

If you are registering a domain and want the domain owner to be different to the account holder, eg for another member of your family, or a client, it will be useful for you to know that we register domains to the person, company given in the Domain Type contact details at the time of registration.
It is especially important to make sure that Nominet names are registered correctly as there is a charge to amend the registered owner's name.

The most common reason for this is incorrect username and/or password. If you are an adsl customer as well check you are not using your adsl username and password by mistake. Lost passwords can be retrieved by email http://www.freedom2surf.net. If this doesn't help make sure cookies are enabled on your web-browser or test another secure site to see if the problem is firewall related.

Your f2s hosting could be working fine even though the transfer hasn't completed because our domain transfers have two aspects to them.
    • Nameserver / DNS changes.
    • Registrars or IPS tag change.
So the DNS change may be complete and the f2s hosting activated before the domain has transferred to our registrars.

There are help links in your Members Area if you are having trouble transferring a Nominet domain in. If you have a gTLD still in transfer, please check the following:
    • Your domain is unlocked.
    • The administrative email contact for your domain, as given in a whois look up, will approve the registrars transfer email.
    • Your domain is more than 60 days old.
When all the above apply, use the log issue in our technical support area to request that we re-send a transfer request for your domain.

    Our primary nameserver is:
    server0004.freedom2surf.net
    ip 194.106.56.34
    and our secondary nameserver is:
    server0001.freedom2surf.net
    ip 194.106.56.46

    Our IPS tag is FREEDOM.

Freedom2surf will automatically renew your domain if your domain hosting is current and un-cancelled.
If you want to pay an unpaid invoice this can be done from the Members Area.

    nb
This renewal system does not apply to uncompleted transfers and international domain hosting.

There are only 3 reasons for your domain to expire:
    • You have cancelled your domain hosting with f2s.
    • You haven't paid the annual renewal.
    • Your domain is still transferring in and it has not been renewed with the previous hosts.

You will be able to check the status of your billing and domain from the Members Area.

If a .com, .net or .org domain name expires it becomes inactive, but will pass into a grace period for 40 days when it can still be renewed and reactivated by the owner. Now, a further domain status has been introduced. From 40 to 70 days after expiry it will held in a redemption state. And the .com and .net regulators have introduced a substantial handling charge to redeem a domain name before it can be renewed. We will have to pass this cost on to our members who wish to renew their domain names at the redemption stage, and will charge £48+vat, plus normal domain hosting. After 75 days, if not redeemed, the name becomes freely available for normal registration again.

If you want to transfer your domain away please use the tag change facility in your Members Area.
You will find this option when you cancel your domain name service from the billing section.
If you have already cancelled, the option will be in the Domain Name section instead.
If your hosting has expired you will need to send a signed letter-headed fax or letter to us with the new IPS tag.

If you want to transfer your gTLD domain away please cancel the domain hosting from the billing section of your Members Area and give your new ISPs name in the reason box.

Further instructions will be found there.
When you have followed these steps we will unlock your domain, and approve the transfer request when we receive it.

To unlock your domain please refer to the guide for transferring generic top level domains away above.
